What : Penang Earth Day Run 2011
When : Sunday 24 April at 6:30am
Where : Stadium MPSP, Bukit Mertajam, Penang
Route: Sports Complex at Jalan Betik -> Jalan Padang Lalang -> Jalan Kebun Sireh -> Persiaran Limau Manis -> Jalan Song Ban Kheng -> Jalan Seri Bukit -> Jalan Sungai Rambai -> Jalan Betik -> Sports Complex for a distance of 12km

Cash prizes of RM500, RM300 and RM200 were awarded to the top 3 finishers of each of the 9 adult categories respectively and the following 20 finishers received a special prize each.

About 1300 runners registered for this event.

This is another long established annual event organised by the PAAA.
This year's meet was held yesterday 10 April which attracted a total of 55 teams competing in 8 categories ranging from Boys and Girls from 13 to 17 years old to Men and Women comprising Open (18 years and above), Junior Veteran (40 - 49 years) and Senior Veteran (50 years and above).
Each team consists of 8 runners with 2 reserves for Boys/Men and 6 runners with 2 reserves for Girls/Women.
The route starts at Jalan Sepoy Lines (off Polo Ground in front of Penang Medical College) -> Jalan Utama -> Jalan Macalister -> Jalan Residency -> Jalan Sepoy Lines which covers a distance of 2.52km

The event was scheduled to start at 7:30am but unfortunately there were some occasional drizzling before the Start which delayed the flag-off till 7:40am when the drizzle stopped.

We entered 7 teams and came out with the following results :

This event was marked by an ugly controversial incident which saw a new participant from Australia Miss Taliah Daniels being deprived of her 5th podium placing. Below is an excerpt of her article of her plight in her facebook site :

TRUTH 1.

I (Taliah Jane Daniels Bib D543) ran the 26km Malakoff Marathon from START to FINISH with an official “CHIP TIME” that was 36 seconds faster than Miss Serina Ong Chin Im, Bib E650.

TRUTH 2:

Due to the fact that I was kind and polite enough to allow Ms Serina Ong Chin Im Bib E650 a 1 minute and 10 second head start on “GUN TIME”, she receives the official 5th place (wearing a category E Bib) in the category D section based on “GUN TIME, not on “CHIP TIME.”

TRUTH 3.

I quote Melody Tan, Race Director Malakoff 26km. “CHIP TIMES are for runners personal interest only.” I was also informed (after the race and I had been handed my 5th place getters card by the official on the day)… “If I wish to be competitive next year, I need to stand closer to the start line.”

TRUTH 4.

“All Official Protests should be made on race day in writing with a deposit.” – Quote Melody Tan, Race Director.

Why was I only just informed of the above statement on the 29th of March instead of on race day???

TRUTH 5.

After my 5th place getters card had been taken from me 2 hours after the race, it was NEVER replaced with an official “Race Finishers” medal - I received nothing, not even an apology!

TRUTH 6.

Furthermore, “apparently” Ms Serina Ong Chin Im (according to Melody Tan) switched her category BEFORE the event from “E” to “D”….. But I can only presume that there was not time enough for the modern technology machine known as a “Printer” to print a correct Bib for her. – Or possibly they ran out of paper?! Or possibly Ms Serina Ong Chin Im changed her mind AFTER the race once she had seen the results? Unfortunately, the truth on this will remain forever a mystery.

Activity 8/2011 - March 25 - Birthday Party for Manager Andrew Loh

26 March is the birthday of our renowned Manager Andrew Loh and Mei Ling was keen and helpful enough to organise a dinner gathering to celebrate this occasion.
As the Malakoff 26km Run fell on the following day after the birthday, Mei Ling decided to hold the celebration on Friday the 25 at "7 Bistro" at Gurney Plaza thanks to her kind collaboration from Karen Geh who knows the restaurant owner.
More than 40 persons attended this function at 7:30pm and as expected we had an enjoyable party time celebration.

Activity 7/2011 - March 13 - Bareno Run, Bukit Jalil.

Our ladies displayed a superb performance in the Women Veteran Category 21km (actual distance 20.54km according to Sunny's Garmin watch) where 4 of them were among the Top 10 finishers :
