Activity 19/2011 - June 26 - SCKLM 2011

SCKLM 2011, the 3rd edition of Standard Chartered KL Marathon and one of the two largest local marathon events was held last Sunday 26 June. This event attracted a record of nearly 22,000 registrants including 2461, 4840, 10,380 in Full Marathon, Half Marathon and 10km respectively and these 3 events stated and finished at Dataran Mederka.

Our Group, under the leadership of manager Andrew Loh, organised the bus transport and hotel accommodation and we had 2 full-bus-load of more than 80 participants, apart from some who traveled on their own. One bus departed ex Komtar at 6:30am Sat en route to Prai to pick up those from the mainland and the other bus followed at 7:00am ex Sg. Nibong and both met at Juru toll before continued journey to KL.

We stopped at the Tapah RR station where we had a birthday celebration for Karen Geh at the Dunkin Donut outlet. At about 1:00pm we reached the Bukit Jalil Sports Complex to collect our race pack and it was 3:00pm when we checked in our City Hotel, which we practically 'sapu' all the rooms, in China town, a walking distance to Dataran Mederka.

The 1st event, Full Marathon started at 5:00am and the participants involved, including some Half-Marathons runners, assembled outside the hotel at 4:00am before we 'marched' towards the START, about 10 minutes away.

To the view of the majority this event was very well organised without any serious complaints or shortcomings surfaced. Must compliment the organisers for setting up drinking stations at every 2km intervals with sufficient supplies of water and 100 Plus unlike the previous years.
Another praise for the organisers was that, also unlike the previous years, there was no congestion of runners from the various categories at certain parts of the route especially from the 10km runners who had a different routing.
Thank You SCKLM 2011 and we look forward to coming back next year.

Take this opportunity to thank Andrew Loh again for his excellent organisation of our transport and hotel accommodation arrangements, thank you Gan Hoay Woon for being an efficient "Minister of Finance" and all others who made their kind contributions towards our successful participation.

Thank you to all the participants for making this expedition fun and enjoyable.

To all the finishers, well done and congratulations, especially to those who made their successful debuts in 42195, Bravo....
To those who were rather unlucky to fall under DNF, please do not feel discouraged about the temporary upsets, there are many running events in the pipeline which you could excel....
