Activity 35/2011 - Dec 18 - Round The Island Relay










The traditional closing road running event of Penang, the Round The Island Relay 2011, organised by PAAA, took off at 5:30am as usual on the 3rd Sunday of December, the 18th. This is the 34th annual edition , probably one of the oldest road races in the country.

The START/FINISH point was scheduled to be held at the Esplanade, unlike last year which was at the Upper Penang Road, but due to a last minute clash with a cycling event at the same venue which was given a preference in priority, it was shifted to Jalan Green Hall, the same venue of this event held two years ago.
Obviously the Esplanade is an ideal holding place and ironically this popular place is always booked on weekend by an December Pesta event, would not be surprised a repeat in next year's scenario.

Same format applied this time with each team consisting of 12 runners and 3 reserves to round-up 72.7km of the island in a clockwise direction in official closing times of 6 hours for the Men Open and 7 hours for the Men Veteran and Mixed categories.

The route was as follows :

According to Captain Jin's Garmin, the 2nd leg distance was 7.66km (compared to 7.3km as mentioned)

An error has come to light in the Total Time of the winner team (R) in the Men Veteran category, it should read 4:49:41 instead of 4:45:41 and PAAA has amended it accordingly

Activity 34/2011 - Dec 11 - PVAA 10km Veterans Run







The 2nd edition of the Penang Veteran Athletes Association (PVAA) 10km Veterans Run took off last Sunday 11 November at PISA, Bayan Baru at 7:00am. The route was the same as that of last year which started at PISA-> J Relau -> J Tun Dr Awang, J Sultan Azlan Shah -> J Mashuri -> PISA covering a distance of 10.25km.
This event was organised by PVAA and Jabatan Belia Dan Sukan Pulau Pinang in co-operation with PAAA, MPPP and Delta Business Solutions Sdn Bhd.
About 850 runners signed up for this event.

Activity 33/2011 - 4 Dec - NTCRC Across-3-State Half Marathon Run (Penang-Perak-Kedah)










N.T.C.R.C. ACROSS-3-STATE HALF MARATHON RUN (PENANG-PERAK-KEDAH)

This was the first exclusively half-marathon race ever held in the state of Penang made possible by the N.T.C.R.C. (Nibong Tebal Chinese Recreation Club) who initiated this pioneer race with route uniquely covering the the delta of 3 state boundaries viz Penang, Perak and Kedah.

The 21km event was very successfully held last Sunday, 4 December at 6:00am with START/FINISH at the N.T.C.R.C. in Nibong Tebal.

How many of you has ever run across 3 states in a single road race? Never?
Now, this is your chance.

NTCRC is organizing a “Across-3-State Half Marathon Run 2011” on 4 Dis 2011. Runners will run across the states of Penang, Perak & Kedah. You will pass through the old town of Nibong Tebal, Parit Buntar & pass by Bandar Bahru. At one stretch, you will run along the Kerian River, famous for its Udang Galah. You will also pass through USM’s Engineering Campus at Transkrian & also Institut Latihan Perindustrian Nibong Tebal (ILP). In Bandar Bahru, you will run along the padi field.

Guarantee a new experience for every one!

Beside trophies, we are offering cash prizes for the top ten runners in each category:1st RM500, 2nd RM300, 3rd RM200, 4th & 5th RM100 each, 6th to 10th RM50 each, totaling RM1450 for each category.

There are two categories for men and one for women. All participants will receive a running vest. Those who complete the run in 3½ hours will receive a certificate and finisher medal, and will be entitled to participate in the lucky draw where attractive prizes are up for grabs.
